Extended weekend doubles the festive joy of people

With an extended weekend providing the people a long break till October 2, an air of festivity pervaded the city and Dasara was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety all over. A string of programmes were organised in various parts as part of the festivities.

Devotees performed ‘kumkuma puja’ and rendered bhajans as part of the festivities organised at Sri Sathya Sai Prema Sadan. ‘Unjal seva’ was performed for goddess Durga, marking the conclusion of the celebrations on Sunday. The idol of Durga at Sathya Sai Mandir was decked up in various avatars during the festival, including Mahalakshmi.

Special alankarams marked the Navaratri celebrations at Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple. The deity was decorated with ornaments and assorted fruits and scores of devotees witnessed the rituals performed at the temple.

The deity at Visakha Sri Sarada Peetham was decorated with silk saris and ornaments. Led by head of the peetham Sri Swaroopanandendra Saraswati, a number of devotional programmes such as ‘go-puja’ and ‘Ganapati puja’ were conducted as part of ‘Sri Sarada Sarannavaratri Mahotsavalu’.

The police personnel took part in Dasara celebrations organised at City Armed Reserve. DCP (law and order) K. Fakeerappa and DCP (crime) Shemushi Bajpai along with others performed pooja at the venue.

‘Dasara sambaralu’

Celebrating its decade-long journey, Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation organised ‘Dasara sambaralu’ in association with the AP Broadcast Journalists Association. Accompanied by their family members, journalists from various media houses took part in the sambaralu that included enthralling cultural programmes.
