Farmers, trade unions gear up for protest against LARR

Farmers associations, people’s movements, trade unions and the Opposition parties are preparing for a showdown with the government demanding withdrawal of the ordinance on LARR (The right to far compensation and transparency in land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2014, in New Delhi on February 24.

The ‘Maha dharna’ would be intensified and simultaneous protests held at various locations in the country until the Modi Government announces unconditional withdrawal of the proposed ordinance. A 5,000-strong team of Ekta Parishad would converge at Jantar Mantar on that day and it would be joined by social activist Anna Hazare and others.

The Maha dharna, being organised by the National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) in association along with All Indian Union of Forest Working People (AIUFWP), Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha, Narmada Bachao Andolan, Yuva Kranti, Campaign for Survival and Dignity, Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan, Jan Pahal, Kisan Sagharsh Samiti, Jan Sangharsh Samnvay Samiti, Delhi Solidarity Group, Ghar Bachao Ghar Banao Andolan, National Fish Workers Forum, Rashtriya Mazdoor Kisan Sangathan and many others groups, according to Congress leader Bolisetty Satya.

CRDA withdrawal sought

Mr. Satya demanded withdrawal of the CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) Act introduced by the A.P. Government. Alleging that the state government was acting as a broker to secure lands for real estate developers, he called upon the Chief Minister to give up the proposal to destroy fertile agricultural lands.

The capital should be built in a decentralized manner as suggested by the Sivaramakrishnan Committee.

He offered to assist the farmers to filed their cases free of cost and ensure that their lands were not forcefully grabbed.

He warned the government that all the political parties, NGO s and the NAPM would soon launch a mass movement in the proposed capital region. He appealed to all the people to support farmers and to ensure food security of the nation.
