Leading specialists of the city were brought under one roof with deliberations focusing on common and perplexing issues pertaining to ocular diseases and anaesthesia, neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-radiology, endocrinological, respiratory, cardiology, and immunological diseases on Sunday.
Taking a break from their routine practice, the specialists congregated at LV Prasad Eye Hospital’s GMRV Campus to mark the eighth anniversary of establishment of LVPEI here for a discussion on ‘Looking beyond eye’.
The meeting was well appreciated by about 100 delegates. It was also connected to all the campuses of the LVPEI through videoconferencing and web streaming.
Systemic diseasesThe meeting highlighted that eye is one organ which mirrors many of the systemic diseases, namely, those diseases wherein the primary defect lies somewhere else in the body. Some common examples cited included hypertension, diabetes, kidney, and brain ailments.
Experts said that 10 to 12 per cent of patients availing themselves of specialised care might have specific signs that could be diagnosed by an eye specialist. The discussions were aimed at throwing light on some of the challenging cases.
“LVPEI plans to conduct such meetings annually to enhance interaction and improve clinical learning across various disciplines of medicine to extend maximum benefit to the patients,” said programme coordinator Dr. Virender Sachdeva.
