Essar promises hefty compensation

Setting a new benchmark in compensation for the death of a contract worker due to a workplace mishap concessionaire operating Visakhapatnam Port Trust Iron Ore Handling Complex has promised to a total payout of Rs 40 lakh.

The amount includes the compensation from other sources like insurance company, general secretary National Port Trust Employees Union K Paradesinaidu said in a statement here on Tuesday.

The Essar Group, concessionaire for the Ore Handling Complex, promised to pay the amount to the next of kin of 47-year-old Rapeti Srinivasa Rao working as a helper on a Reclaimer Bucket and was crushed to death on Tuesday.
