Engineering student commits suicide

A third-year B. Tech. (Mechanical) student of Andhra University College of Engineering allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the sea at RK beach, late on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Manikanta Gupta (21), native of Srikakulam town and was pursing his B. Tech at AU campus.

On Thursday night, Manikanta along with his friends had gone to RK Beach and after spending around an hour at the beach, he sent back his friends to the hostel stating that he would be joining them later.

According to the police, the deceased had sent an SMS to his brother, who is studying second year B. Tech at Gitam University, stating that he would commit suicide. On Friday morning, the body of Manikanta washed ashore and the body was sent to KGH for post mortem.

Inspector of III-Town police station B. Tirumala Rao, said that they were yet to ascertain the exact reason for the engineering student to take such an extreme step. The police are investigating the case.
