The Hindu , in association with Essar Foundation (CSR arm of ESSAR group), will organise an elocution competition for school students to commemorate Ozone Day, with a view to create awareness about the importance of environmental protection.
The preliminary rounds will be held at The Hindu office in Seethammadhara on September 11 and 12, and the finals will be held on September 15. This competition is open for the students of classes 8, 9 and 10 and each school can nominate three students. The participation is only through registration and the students are advised to call The Hindu office at 0891-2536159 / 9849498771 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on all working days.
The topic for preliminary round will be -Role of students in Environmental protection.World Ozone Day is celebrated every year on September 16 since 1995.
This Day marks the importance of Ozone layer and its role in the environment. The United nations General Assembly has designated this Day to reflect the adoption of Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the Ozone layer.
There are numerous activities and programs organised to spread awareness about the global phenomenon of Ozone layer depletion. Essar Foundation (CSR arm of ESSAR group) which focuses ‘to improve the quality of socio-economic life of communities and make a positive contribution to the life of all those who are directly or indirectly impacted by Essar’s business, and with a focus on making positive changes to human life. As part of its CSR initiative, Essar Foundation is conducting elocution and tree plantation programmes to commemorate this year's "International Day for the preservation of Ozone layer" in association with The Hindu .
