After connecting 18 dots in two rows meticulously, Divya, a Class IX student of Zilla Parishad School in Pendurthi mandal, gets engrossed in drawing earthen pots brimming with milk.

“It is a single pattern of muggu that brings Sankranti theme alive,” she says.

Rural life

Unmindful of the chatter around, T. Bhavani and Janaki Priya, Class VIII students, work in tandem to outline interesting elements of rural life on a canvas.

They say, “This is the first time that we are experimenting with chalk piece on a chart paper.”

Squatting on the floor, holding brushes and chalk pieces, hundreds of students were seen engrossed in designing an array of rangoli patterns on chart papers.

On the concluding day of the competition organised as a prelude to Visakha Utsav by the School Education Department and Phoenix IT Solutions Ltd, students (Classes VIII to X) from various schools displayed their expertise in competitions such as rangoli , collage work, and quiz contest.

For those who participated in the contest, the detailed study of muggu began at home.

“It took me an hour to pick up the nuances from my mother, who is adept in the art,” says M. Parvathi, a Class IX student of ZPHS-Jagampeta.

Using cups of sand, sheets of thermocol, pieces of paper, and a bunch of ice-cream sticks, some of the students brought themes like submarine, beach, and apartment blocks as part of the collage work competition.

A wide range of questions related to general knowledge was covered in quiz contest.

Good response

The event witnessed good participation.

Director of Cityzen, a CSR arm of Phoenix IT Solution Ltd, G. Vani, and principal consultant Sandhya Godey were among those who coordinated the event.

Little minds unplug their creativity in rangoli , collage work, and GK contest, organised as a prelude to
