The first step in the process of getting admission in an engineering college began with the commencement of web counselling at government allotted helpline centres here on Thursday, without any major hiccups. This year about 1,90,000 students across the state will be exercising the counselling option, and the procedure was initiated with the verification and collection of original certificates by the authorities. But the main task begins after this initial step, said the Principal of Government Institute of Chemical Technology and the Nodal Officer for Web Counselling V. Subrahmanyam Dutt.
“Unlike the earlier online counselling, where a candidate could view the options live on the television screen and then take a call on which college to join and which branch to take, in the case of web counselling it is like treading in the dark. Though the web counselling process has reduced our load, the onus is now on the parents and the students,” he said.
He pointed out that each candidate and the parents should do some in-depth research before they choose the options. “The ‘option' part is the most crucial part of the counselling. They should strictly follow the option dates and carefully go through the last year's seat matrix to get an idea of the options available. Most importantly they should decide whether they should focus on college or branch or location. For that they should do extensive homework such as visiting the colleges, talking to the seniors, checking on the faculty strength and infrastructure and placement records,” said Mr. Dutt. Earlier in the morning, candidates with Eamcet ranks between 1 and 30,000 made a beeline for the Government Polytechnic College and The Government Institute of Chemical Engineering, the two helpline centres in the city limits. The third one in the district is notified as the Government Polytechnic- Narsipatnam. While verification of certificates end on August 3, the option entry dates are scheduled rank wise from July 31 to August 9.
