The depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood further moved northwards and lay centred about 800 km east southeast of Machlipatnam on Thursday.

The system is very likely to move north north westwards and reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts on December 9 morning. The system is likely to intensify further into a deep depression, during the next 24 hours, according to the IMD on Thursday evening.

There is, however, a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.

Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari and West Godavari on Dec 8 and 9. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely at many places over coastal AP during the same period.

Strong surface winds from north easterly direction, with speeds reaching 45 to 50 km/hr, gusting to 60 km/hr, are likely to prevail along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh. The state of sea would be rough to very rough along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) here.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours, commencing from 6 p.m. on Thursday.
