Delicate surgery performed in KGH

A days old baby girl born at King George Hospital here was diagnosed with a rare condition, tongue fused with hard palate (ankyologlossia superior), observed one among a 100 crore children, and a delicate surgery was performed on Thursday to correct the condition, Superintendent of KGH M. Madhusudhana Babu informed.

HoD of Plastic Surgery P.V. Sudhakar ,who performed the surgery, said only 14 such cases were reported in the world so far. For him it was the second case.

The baby girl born to Jyothi 16 days ago has this congenital anomaly and had difficulty in suckling and had to be fed with a feeding tube.

The baby was taken care of by Professor of Paediatrics Swami Naidu before surgery. Dr. Sudhakar was assisted by Assistant Professor B. Ratna Bhushan and Staff Nurse B. Ramanamma.

For the anaesthesia team led by A. Satyanarayana and V. Ravi, the surgery was a challenge.
