With the task of removing debris proving quite arduous and time-consuming, the administration has decided to deploy men and machines in three shifts.
Earth-moving machines and tippers will be deployed for three shifts in zones II and III of the GVMC, comprising the core areas of the city.
According to officials, clearing the debris in zones V and VI has been completed.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana.
Shortage of drivers, however, is proving to be a handicap.
The Minister said that the Chief Minister had appreciated the work done by the municipal workers and would personally convey his views to them during his next visit.
He appealed to people to celebrate Deepavali in a simple manner, as sale of crackers was prohibited.
“Branches of trees cleared from various parts of the city have been stocked at 63 places and they could catch fire if something goes wrong,” he said.
Mr. Narayana visited various areas under zones II and III, including MVP Colony, on Sunday. He discussed with horticulture experts the development of VUDA Park.
