An impressive display of exquisite handcrafted jewellery awaits discerning buyers at the Art Karat exhibition at Hotel Daspalla. Designed by jewellery designer Asha Kamal Modi, the ‘Nizam Collection' is inspired by the museum jewels of the Nizams of Hyderabad.

The compilation includes a beautiful range of necklaces, long earrings, bracelets, bajubandhs, tikas, rings and pins. Around 650 models are on display at the expo. The compilation is handcrafted in traditional techniques like kundan and meenakari and embellished with exotic gemstones, pearls and crystals.

The collection is priced between Rs.2,000 and Rs.50,000. Earrings can be purchased for Rs.2,000 and necklaces can be had from Rs.20,000 onwards.

Some of the earlier collections of Asha Kamal Modi have adorned the starlets in films like ‘Devdas', ‘Monsoon Wedding', ‘Zubeidaa' and ‘Kamasutra'. “The dream of most women is to wear precious gold jewellery but it is beyond the reach of the middle class. Our collections are within their reach as silver is the base metal used in our masterpieces with a plating of gold to give it an authentic look,” said the business development manager of Art Karat Vikas Gupta.

A ‘champa gali' (necklace) with intricate kundan work on display at the expo was breathtaking. Model Parvathi and fashion coordinator Farha displayed some of the masterpieces at the expo.

“The designer chose fresh water pearls that are akin to natural pearls but can be obtained at a fraction of the price of the latter. Semi-precious stones are sourced from different parts of the country as also other countries to make the jewellery available within the reach of the middle class,” said Mr. Gupta. An added advantage is that the manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty for maintenance and repair of the jewellery.Customers can also exchange their jewellery after one year if they want to go for a new collection. The expo will be on till April 13.
