Dancing for a cause

July 03, 2014 07:04 pm | Updated June 24, 2016 04:36 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

After raising funds for a number of charity initiatives in New Jersey, Bharatanatyam artistes — Shalini Kandula and Jabili Kandula — are now keen on reaching out to children of the city.

The sisters who visit India every alternate year along with their parents — K. Sunitha and K. Jagannadha Rao — are set to stage a Bharatanatyam performance at the Port Kalavani Auditorium on Friday.

Utilising their vacation time effectively, the initiative is taken up to raise funds and support specially-abled children at Ashrayadham Special School, Anakapalle.

As part of their month-long stay, the sisters have been instrumental in raising funds for various schools across the city.

Speaking to The Hindu on their future plans, Ms. Sunitha said: “We are planning to visit Ashrayadham Special School, spend time with the children, and conduct a workshop on balanced diet, health, and hygiene.”
