Dalit and people’s organisations staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday against the attack on Dalits at Lakshmipet in Srikakulam district in which five persons were killed and many others injured.
The Lakshmipet Dalita Atma Gourava Porata Samiti organised the protest programme in which many organisations participated.

The CPI (ML-New Democracy) organised a rally from the Ambedkar statue to the Collectorate.
Convenor of Porata Samiti D. Adams said the government must establish a special fast track court at the village itself to conduct and complete the trial in six months before filing the charge sheet within a month, compensation of Rs. 10 lakh must be paid to family of each one killed and Rs. 2 lakh to each injured person.
The 250 acres in the village must be distributed to the Dalit families with possession certificates and a police picket must be set up in the village. They also demanded a judicial inquiry into the attack.
V.S. Krishna of HRF, M. Sanyasi Rao of Malamahanadu, Bypa Arun Kumar, former corporators K. Venkata Rao, Chenna Rama Rao, and K. Kanna Rao, J. Rajagopala Rao, Ganta Papa Rao, M. Lakshmi, Y. Kondayya, and others addressed the participants of Dharna. Later, a memorandum was submitted at the Collectorate.
