Some of the best works in commercial photography bear his ‘signature’. His creativity and ingenuity have brought him laurels at the national and international level.
Meet Kumar Raja Surisetty of Visakhapatnam who is going great guns in the field of industrial photography. After finishing his schooling from Gnananiketan and B.Sc. from Bullayya College in the city, he joined the JD Institute of Fashion Designing in Mumbai in 2003.
Though he started his career as a fashion designer, his interest in photography propelled him to pursue photography as a profession. He recalls: “I had an inclination towards photography right from my childhood and the interest grew when I was doing my fashion design course.” He had learnt the basics of photography and the use of light through ‘Smart Photography’. He, however, felt the need to have specialised training under the guidance of an expert.
Browsing the Internet for the best colleges, he zeroed in on the ‘Light & Life Academy in Ooty’. He did his PG in product architecture and industrial photography from that college in 2010.
“I was fortunate to have Iqbal Mohamed, the internationally acclaimed photographer as my faculty”. Raja secured the first rank in the college and shifted from fashion designing to photography the same year. Hardly a year after passing out of the college, he bagged the first prize in the International Photography Awards in 2011. He also secured five honourable mention awards in the same competition. More recently he bagged six Honourable Mention awards in IPA, 2012. His ‘signature’ advertisement for the UB Group won him a gold medal. Working out of Bengaluru, he is freelancing for various advertising agencies for clients like Paragon, Titan and more recently for The Gateway Hotel in Vizag. Raja has set his sights on scaling new heights in ‘advertisement photography’.His other interests include wildlife, nature and portrait photography. “I am a nature-loving person and I try to incorporate nature's beauty in my product shots,” he signs off.
