The CPI(M) city unit has opposed the proposal of GVMC to hand over solid waste management on design-build-own-operate basis to a private company and levying of user charges for underground drainage connections. It figures in the agenda of the GVMC general body meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
CPI(M) city secretary B. Ganga Rao and floor leader in GVMC Botta Eswaramma told reporters here on Tuesday that about Rs.60.58 crore had to be paid every year with tripping fee of Rs.1,638 per tonne amounting to 16.38 lakh a day. Besides, it would collect monthly charges from households and shops for picking garbage from their doorstep. It was estimated that about Rs.15 crore to Rs.20 crore would be realised from it. Besides, the earnings from the disposal of garbage would also go to it.
