Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari has regretted Visakhapatnam being among the 18 districts with less than 50 per cent women's literacy.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating an adult education resource centre of Rashtriya Seva Samiti at Yendada on Sunday, she said ‘Sakshar Bharat' was launched to achieve 100 per cent literacy in the country from the present 65 per cent.
The mission intended to make 4.92 lakh people literate in the district.
Of them 70,309 were men and 4.21 lakh were women. In the first phase, 98,500 would be made literate.
