ENC organising the event for the fifth year in a row.

As many as 5,000 people, including 3,000 Navy personnel and 2000 eminent citizens and students of Visakhapatnam will participate in a programme to clean the beach on Friday morning to mark the 31st International Coastal Cleanup Day.

The programme is being conducted by the Eastern Naval Command and its Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief H.C.S. Bisht will inaugurate at 7.15 a.m. near Kursura Submarine Museum.

The drive will be held on the beach stretch from Ramakrishna beach to Park Hotel and at the Tenneti Park, Yerada, Rushikonda and INS Kalinga beaches.

ENC is organising the event for the fifth year in a row and it has gained importance in the city as the rise in industrialisation is affecting environment and surroundings and also the sea. Pollution level in the sea has gone up to alarming levels in the recent past.

The Indian Coast Guard, the Consumer Protection Council, Lions Club of Visakhapatnam, NSS wing of Andhra University, PAPA Home, Century Club, Y’s Men’s Club, HSL Scouts, Oxford Talent School, Human Rights Association and boys and girls of the Navy Children School are participating, according to a Navy press release issued here on Thursday.
