CM launches GPS-fitted motorcycles

The vehicles will be used for crime prevention, intervention, patrolling, controlling and surveillance: DCP (Crime) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy.

August 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:30 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu flagged off 25 motorcycles of Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate, fitted with GPS tracking system, at the Visakhapatnam Airport, on Monday.

The Chief Minister was on his way back, after a half-day tour of Araku in Visakhapatnam Agency.

Flagging off the vehicles, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu insisted that apart from visual policing, he expects the police to deliver results by moving to the scene of crime in time and nabbing the culprits.

He also suggested the use of technology such as CCTV network in preventing and solving crime.

The vehicles were handed over to the Crime department of the Commissionerate. The vehicles will be used for crime prevention, intervention, patrolling, controlling and surveillance, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy said.

Explaining its use, the DCP said, “as soon as the central command centre receives a call, message or audio or video feed, from a locality, the nearest vehicle to the crime scene will be alerted and the team will reach the scene in minutes. This will improve our response time, as the CCC works 24/7.”

Transparency

The GPS tracking system will not only give the correct location of the vehicle, but will also indicate whether the vehicle is on the move or stationary and also the speed of the vehicle. It will be easy for the team at the Central Command Centre to identify and alert them, said Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy.
