With bifurcation turning out to be imminent, Visakhapatnam should be made the capital of the new State, BJP leader M. Nagendra has said.
Speaking at a meeting of the Visakhapatnam North Assembly constituency wing of the party, he said the city has the basic infrastructure required and would get adequate water for industries and domestic use once the Polavaram project materialised. Land was abundantly available for construction of buildings required for administrative set up. The city is well-connected with air and rail travel facilities. Moreover, it has a cosmopolitan nature with people of several regions living amiably, Mr. Nagendra said. Making the city capital will also help in the development of the backward Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts providing employment to rural youth, he said.
North constituency convener Sivaji Raja Bahadur presided.
State executive member J. Pridhviraj felt the party should work hard to get support of voters for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Another State executive member P. V. N. Madhav hoped party leaders would adopt people-friendly approach to mobilise support for BJP.
Party leaders Malla Venkatrao, T. Subbarami Reddy and Gundu Raghubabu participated.
