The heat is on and along with it comes the need to redo your wardrobe with best picks and fresh colours that offer an ideal choice for summer. Since the season is coincided with the election time, the hand-spun Khadi yarn is catching the attention of the youngsters, politicians, working people and elderly ones across the city.

The translucent Ponduru Khadi, the finest variety among other textiles, continues to be on the wish list for many. “The material is expensive but gets brighter with every wash. Once, you are used to this light and comfortable fabric, it becomes difficult to compromise and pick up any other,” says Koteswara Rao of Bharat Khadi Vastralayam.

For youngsters, long skirts with back slits in beige and topaz-yellow shades are in. This can be teamed up with bright coloured short tops. ‘A good collection of kurtas with chikankari embroidery have arrived for men. Bright greens and yellows and deep burgundies are the fresh colours launched to cater to the younger generation,” says Sridhar Reddy, store-manager of Fab India.

When it comes to dignified look, youngsters say that nothing else can match the feel of Khadi wear. “Be it kurtis, saris or dress materials, Khadi fabric adds to your charm and elegance. Also, it is the most sensible option to balance both comfort and style, especially during summer,” says Deepali Talwar, an architect.

Tailors in the city say that they get orders in bulk during summer. “While men arrive with bundles of Khadi cloth to get their shirts and kurtas sewed, women come up with their own sari designs,” Ram Babu, who runs a tailor shop in Jagadamba junction.

With good collection of pinstriped kurtas, khadi-jackets in earthy tones and waft and weft weaves flooding the market, fashion freaks can now beat the heat in style.
