September 21, 2010 10:53 am | Updated 10:53 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Praja Rajyam Party president K. Chiranjeevi on Monday assured people displaced after construction of Anrak aluminium plant commenced in Makavarapalem mandal that their demands would be discussed with the Chief Minister and justice would be done to them.

Mr. Chiranjeevi went to Area Hospital at Narsipatnam around 6.30 p.m. and persuaded party's senior leader Ruttala Yerrapatrudu to give up his indefinite fast. He demanded the police and revenue departments to tender an apology to Mr. Yerrapatrudu.

Mr. Yerrapatrudu started an indefinite fast on Saturday in front of the Tahsildar's Office at Makavaripalem demanding the Government to implement its promise of providing house site to all the eligible displaced persons. For the last many days the Praja Rajyam leader was leading an agitation on this issue and other demands.

However, after Sunday midnight a police party swooped on the indefinite fast camp and took away Mr. Yerrapatrudu. He was taken to the Area Hospital at Narsipatnam where he continued his fast.

Several were reportedly injured as the police resorted to a mild lathi-charge when the PR supporters tried to prevent the police from taking away Mr. Yerrapatrudu. Two of the PR activists, Mopada Srinu and Ruthala Peddinaidu, were severely injured and were rushed to a corporate hospital here.

Offers lime juice

Mr. Chiranjeevi, after offering lime juice to Mr. Yerrapatrudu to give up his fast, came to the city from Narsipatnam and called on the two injured. The PR leader stayed back in the city after he missed the late evening flight.

In a press release on Monday night, office of the Superintendent of Police informed that Mr. Yerrapatrudu had to be shifted to a hospital as the medical report said that his health condition had deteriorated. When a 60-member police party led by Inspector of Makavarapalem went to the hunger strike camp to disperse crowd on the orders of the tahsildar in-charge to lift Mr. Yerrapatrudu from the camp, it was attacked by an unruly crowd of about 100 supporters of the PR leader. Police used minimum force and shifted 20 miscreants in the mob into a police vehicle. But they started jumping from the vehicle and Mopada Srinu of Chinnayyapalem village suffered injuries when he fell on the road. Police shifted him to the Area Hospital, Narsipatnam. Meanwhile Ruthala Reddinaidu and Ruthala Raminaidu got themselves admitted in the hospital saying that they were injured in the police action.

By 6 a.m. on Monday, the Area Hospital doctors preferred to shift Srinu and Peddinaidu to Visakhapatnam for better treatment and the two were brought here and admitted into a corporate hospital by the police under the instructions of the SP, the press release said.
