What does it feel like to be when your favourite character in the book that you have been reading for years appears all of a sudden, shakes hand with you, gives away goodies, poses for a selfie and spends considerable time listening to you?
Sounds strange? But this unfulfilled fantasy came true for those who met “the writer” of adventure tales Geronimo Stilton this weekend as part of the Great India Tour at the Pages bookstore.
Ardent readers
Ardent readers of the series had a whale of a time with the fa‘mouse’ editor of The Rodent’s Gazette of the Mouse Island when he walked around the book stall with them dressed up like a typical writer.
Promoting reading culture
After visiting Bengaluru, Calicut, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Coimbatore, the Scholastic India team descended on the City of Destiny to promote reading culture among kids. “Reading is fun as long as one enjoys the process. Today, not many have time to flip through story books. Our key role is to inculcate the reading habit in children as it adds value to their creative thinking,” explains Rubina Majid, educational consultant of Scholastic India. The next place of stop for the Scholastic India team is Mangalore.
Wrapping up a decade-long journey, director of Pages Anil Nevatia said: “The bookstore is all set to celebrate its 10{+t}{+h}anniversary on June 14. Geronimo Stilton Great India Tour is part of ‘Pages Day’ celebrations. From adventure to fiction and mythology, our prime focus is to introduce readers to diverse genres and help them develop an appetite for flipping through a wide range of books.”
Storytelling session
After a storytelling session, where a few chapters of Geronimo Stilton were narrated, children took part in the quiz and walked away with goodies.
“I find the series quite adventurous as it allows me to be in my own imaginary world,” says Harshita, Kolkata-based girl who came to the city to spend summer vacation with her cousins.
