Centre lauds AP’s startup initiative

It asks State to guide 13 States in developing ecosystem

Sunrise Andhra Pradesh has received appreciation from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry for its success in spreading innovation culture and encouraging several youngsters to float startups in IT, e-commerce, healthcare, financial technology (fintech) and other areas.

The Centre has asked AP to guide 13 States including Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi in developing the required ecosystem.

At a two-day workshop which began here on Monday under the aegis of DIPP and AP Innovation Society, Joint Secretary Ravinder and Deputy Secretary Shruti Singh said following phenomenal contribution to building startup ecosystem, they had asked AP to guide other States on its experiences.

“We are very happy that the Centre has recognised AP as a role model and requested us to extend our help to other States in spreading startup culture,” Special Chief Secretary and IT Advisor to Chief Minister J.A. Chowdary told The Hindu .

A comprehensive ecosystem has been created with a network of incubators, mentors, angel investors, venture capital funding firms, legal experts and domain experts.

Mr. Chowdary said they had already signed MoU with Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to invite startups from there to A.P and for cohort programmes and avail various business opportunities.

When contacted, APIS CEO V. Valli Kumari said they had development incubation facilities at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Kakinada and Anantapur and a new facility was being introduced at Amaravati area.

Fund created

She said for encouraging startups and innovation, a fund had been created by allotting ₹100 crore. So far, 894 had been employed by various startups and they were in the process of setting up Atal Tinkering Labs in schools across the State with financial support from Atal Innovation Mission and Niti Aayog.
