CPI (M) leader and MLC from graduates' constituency M.V.S. Sarma on Tuesday asked Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to cancel the land allotted to the Hinduja National Power Corporation.
The company, which had earlier shelved its project near Parawada, was allotted 1,100 acres in 1991. It was given land with the provision that 100 per cent power generated by the company would be supplied to the State at a pre-determined price.
“I strongly feel that the decision of the State government regarding land allotment be reviewed,” he said and pointed out certain irregularities in the land allotment.
Mr. Sarma, who is the deputy floor leader of Progressive Front in the Legislative Council, said the land in question belonged to Wakf Board. The entire value of land should go to Wakf Board for the welfare of minorities.
But only one-third cost of the land was paid to the board, which was a great injustice. The agreement did not envisage any welfare measure including employment or development of minorities, he stated. The CPI (M) leader referred to heavy pollution in the city and as to how thermal power plants were accounting for aggravating pollution problem.
“It has almost been 20 years since Hindujas were allotted the land. They have neither undertaken construction of the project nor relief and rehabilitation work. Even the compensation for land is not paid to more than 600 acres of land,” the MLC alleged.
He said as per his information, the Hindujas were demanding more land and even backing out of their commitment to supply 100 per cent power generated to the State.
