April 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Environmental activists of Green Environment Service Society are coming together to observe the 45{+t}{+h}Earth Day with a series of events. Earth Day is an annual event that is observed across the world on April 22 from 1970.

With an aim to focus on environment-friendly ways to preserve the planet, a campaign was launched on Sunday by the society. As part of the campaign, the events poster was released by Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju.

The awareness programme will begin on April 18 with a cultural event highlighting the concept of ‘Green Earth Day’ at Visakhapatnam Public Library at 10 a.m. On April 19, a drawing competition will be conducted on the same theme at the library. The competition will be held in two categories -- juniors (classes 1 to 7) and seniors (class 8 class and above). Winners will be presented with mementos and all participants will be given certificates.

A Green Earth Walk will be organised on April 20 at 5.30 p.m. from Alluri statue (near YMCA) to R.K. Beach bus stop. To highlight the issues relating to environmental pollution and global warming, Green Environment Service Society in association with A.P. Pollution Control Board will be organising a ‘Green Earth Day Workshop’ at Visakhapatnam Public Library on April 21 at 10 a.m. On the concluding day of the awareness campaign, a photo exhibition will be held at R.K. Beach on April 22 at 6 a.m.
