Woman has a role to play in every sphere of life. But, it is very unfortunate that in the competitive world, woman is losing her charm as a person and is becoming an object. So we need to work collectively towards promoting gender equality and respect women as they are. Words alone cannot bring any change, however, change in attitude would. Try to think about the rope walk and means to empower woman and help them come out of the darkness presenting pragmatic solutions, said president of Gayatri Vidya Parishad and former mayor D.V. Subba Rao.
A group of experts shared their views on women awareness and empowerment at a seminar ‘Jaagruti arise, awake and stop not’ organised by Kasturba Centre for Women’s Studies (KCFWS) in association with Gayatri Vidya Parishad College for Degree and PG Courses here on Friday.
Director of KCFWS S. Rajani spoke on sensitising men and women to keep pace with the changing scenario.
“Indian woman has come a long way. Though women have spread their horizons in every field, domestic violence and sexual abuse act as deterrents for their growth. Increased intolerance among men and women is leading to cacophony and violence. Parents, society, educational institutions, media and NGOs play an important role in creating a better world for women,” she said.
Change in society is influencing woman’s quality of life, said director of Shantiniketan Mental and Health Centre Lakshmi Raj. “The art of multi-tasking is taking its toll on women’s health. Women should maintain self-respect in every relationship and nurture emotional intelligence in order to sustain psychological wellbeing,” she added.
ICSSR senior research fellow in Department of Sociology Raj Kumari said that Government alone cannot bring any change. “The revolution is possible only when every individual and institution comes forward and takes the initiative in an inclusive manner.”
