Top brass from major public sector industries expressed concern over the training being given to the students and lack of employment skills among the youth.
Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu said decades-old tools and teaching methods were still being used, while students in advanced countries make themselves busy visiting industries, preparing reports, etc. and have modern tools at their disposal. “There is a need to include practical study in the curriculum,” he said. Studying, working and getting improved must be the ‘mantra’ of the students, Mr. Krishna Babu said. He was speaking at the inaugural session of a UGC workshop on sustainable industry-institute interaction in the changing global environment, being jointly organised by Department of Commerce and Management Studies of AU.
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant General Manager V. Narayanan found lack of employable skills among the country’s youth. There was a need to train youths to meet the requirements of industries.
Self studyAndhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju stressed the need to inculcate the habit of self study among the students. AU was involving industry while preparing syllabi for its courses and students were being encouraged to get practical experience at industries.
NTPC Group General Manager Simhadri Asim Kumar Samatha wanted institutions to work towards improving special skills of students. AU College of Arts and Commerce Principal R. Satya Raju and others spoke.
