Braille signage to help visually-impaired voters

Visually impaired voters can now cast their votes thanks to the electronic voting machines supported by Braille signage.

The Braille signage (like dots) are embedded next to every button on the voting machine indicating the name and party of a candidate. The dots indicate the serial number of a candidate.

Dummy ballot papers, one each for the Lok Sabha and Assembly segment in Braille script are being sent to every polling station.

The dummy ballot paper in Braille script contains names of contesting candidates in a serial number, along with party each candidate is representing or if he or she is an independent, and the symbol.

The Presiding Officer has to give this chart in Braille script to a visually impaired voter so that the voter can know the details by reading the chart through touch and remember the serial number of the contestant to which he or she would like to vote.

Then the voter would search for the serial number of the contestant on the EVM with the help of Braille signage and press the button next to it to cast the vote.
