The focus of the maiden executive committee meeting of the newly-formed BJP Andhra Pradesh unit at Vijayawada on Friday will be on getting the Polavaram multipurpose project completed in a time-bound manner.
The president of the newly-formed unit, Kambhampati Haribabu, said there seemed to be some objections and the meeting would focus on ways of getting over them and starting the project in a short time and complete it.
KCR commentsMr. Haribabu’s comments assume significance in view of the objections raised by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao stating that his party would insist on change of the Polavaram project design, would allow water utilisation only after the need for Telangana projects was met and still opposed the inclusion of the mandals with villages that faced submergence in Seemandhra.
Mr. Haribabu told The Hindu on Thursday the other amendments that were moved by BJP were not part of the Bill (that was passed by Parliament) but came in the form an assurance by the Prime Minister and the party would press for their implementation by the next government at the Centre, which he was sure would be formed by the BJP. It would also take up the extension of the special status to the residuary State from five to 10 years. The meeting would also discuss its manifesto for the forthcoming elections and formulate it.
BJP spokesperson and in charge of the party in Seemandhra and Telangana Prakash Javadekar will participate in the meeting on Friday.
District presidents and general secretaries of the party from the 13 Seemandhra districts and State executive members will attend the meeting. The meeting will also take up the issues relating to starting new educational institutions like IIMs, IITs and Central Universities in Seemandhra.
