BJP national executive committee member and former president of State unit N. Indrasena Reddy on Tuesday accused the Congress government in the State of cheating the farmers right from supply of seeds to providing remunerative price to the crops.
Talking to media persons here, the BJP leader who was in the city to attend preparatory meetings for AP Legislative Council’s graduate constituency elections next March, said lack of planning and corruption in supply of seeds had led to continuous shortage much to the chagrin of the farmers. This led to incidents of raids on seed godowns and gherao of agriculture officers even by women farmers, he pointed out.
“The Government, which boasts of being farmer-friendly, refuses to accept its failure and blames the opposition for deliberately criticising it. But the fact remains that the issue is acknowledged by the ministers themselves at Cabinet meetings and a Congress MP Venugopala Reddy even declared that those responsible for the crisis should be hanged,” Mr. Reddy said, and squarely blamed the Agriculture minister Raghuveera Reddy who had been holding the portfolio for the past six years, for the present situation.
He alleged corruption in supply of seeds through Markfed, Agros and cooperative socities.
BJP leaders K. Haribabu, Raghunatha Babu, Bandaru rangamohan, J. Prithviraju, and city president M. Nagendra were present.
