Ayyanna faults BJP for criticism on Polavaram

November 18, 2017 01:01 am | Updated 01:01 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM

Minister for Roads & Buildings Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu came down heavily on BJP leaders D. Purandeswari and Kanna Lakshminarayana for criticising the Polavaram project on technical grounds. The dream of several generations was coming true owing to the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said. At a press conference on the sidelines of AgTech Summit, he condemned their comments that funds were being misused by construction of coffer dam and questioning its location.

He recalled that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inspected the project, complimented the effort of the government, gave nod to coffer dam and promised permission to another one.

Mr. Patrudu said he was at a loss to understand whether the criticism of the two former Congress leaders was aimed at creating hurdles for the project or mudslinging at Mr. Chandrababu Naidu.

Pointing out that some people were opposing the construction of new capital, the Minister hailed the NGT giving approval with certain conditions.

Two MPs also levelled allegations on use of MNREGS funds but in 13000 villages of the State 13600 km of roads were laid for which he received 13 awards from the Prime Minister, he said.

MLA V. Ramakrishnababu was present.
