On the occasion of International Youth Day, Dadi Institute of Engineering and Technology (DIET)-Anakapalle in collaboration with The Hindu will organise an awareness walk on Beach Road on Sunday.
The main objective of this event is to engage the youth and draw the attention of the young people in reflecting on key issues, and how they can overcome these challenges, according to the secretary and correspondent of DIET Dadi Ratnakar.
He said that the first celebration of International Youth Day was held on August 12, 2000 which was actually designated by the United Nations in 1999 itself. Since then, it is being celebrated every year on August 12 all over the world.
He said the theme of the day for the year 2012 as declared by the UN is ‘Building a Better World: partnering with Youth’.
It is a great celebration of the ‘spirit of youth’ and symbolises the need for increased employment, focused entrepreneurship, empowered education, including health, improved political inclusion, non-marginalised citizenship and protection of student rights which are some of the key themes for the year as inked by the United Nations, he added.
The walk will be flagged-off by Joint Collector of Visakhapatnam district Praveen Kumar along with former Mayor and eminent lawyer D.V. Subba Rao.
The walk will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday at Ramakrishna Beach and culminates at Santhi Ashramam near VUDA Park, where the The Hindu staff and DIET Youth Red Cross (DYRC) division will spend time with the inmates of Santhi Ashramam.
Young people, student community, citizens, faculty members and volunteers are expected to take part in the event. Mr. Dadi Ratnakar appealed to the students of all age groups to come and join the rally to make it a grand success.
He said that a few voluntary contributions received by some of the young students which includes some good photos etc., are planned to be displayed during the awareness walk. All are invited to take part in the walk.
