A one-day awareness programme on cyber frauds was conducted by the city police in association with ICICI and Airtel in Visakhapatnam on Saturday to create greater awareness among police officers on the latest trends in cyber crimes and to give them tips in investigating such crimes.
Participating as a chief guest Police Commissioner Amit Garg said cyber crimes have become a menace all over the country, and underlined the importance of a scientific and systematic approach to catch the cyber criminals.
Expressing concern at the high incidence of cyber crimes in Visakhapatnam city compared to other cities of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Garg said that the cyber criminals were coming out with various methods of cheating like phishing.
Deputy Commissioners of Police C.M. Trivikram Varma, G. Ram Gopal Naik and T. Ravi Kumar Murthy said that Inspectors and SIs should know to make use of the latest technologies in the collection of data and to gather cyber clues for speedy investigation of cyber crimes. Representatives of ICICI and Airtel educated the police officers on gathering of cyber evidence to effectively deal with cyber crimes. Sub-Inspectors, Inspectors and Assistant Commissioners of Police of Visakhapatnam City Commissionerate attended the workshop.
