AU upbeat over NIRF ranking

It finds place among top 100 institutes of the country

The mood is upbeat on Andhra University campus as the university has secured 69th spot in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which was released by Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Monday.

The 90-year-old university has secured the spot amid 3,300-odd institutions in the country, and in the list which is headed by IISC- Bangalore in the top spot and followed by IIT- Madras, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Delhi and JNU-Delhi, said Registrar V. Umamaheswara Rao.

Ahead of AU, is Sri Venkateswara University (SVU)- Tirupati in the 68th spot, taking the total tally to two universities in the State, which are ranked below 100 in the list.

On the other hand Telangana has four institutes in the list. They include University of Hyderabad in the 14th place, IIIT-Hyderabad in the 26 spot, Osmania in 38th spot and NIPER in 58th place.

Tough competition

According to the Registrar, it was a tough contest and this was the first time that such an exercise was conducted by the university on the call given by the MHRD.

Prof. Umamaheswara Rao said though the university secured the 69th spot in the overall ranking, college wise the rankings are better.

“Our pharmacy college was ranked 18 among all the pharmacy entries. Among universities alone, AU stood in 43rd place and science and arts college was ranked 21st,” he told The Hindu .

According to Prof. Nageswara Rao, the basic focus for ranking was academics, research and public perceptions.
