Arrangements have been made for the second phase of pulse polio programme on February 27, 28 and March 1 and it is targeted to cover 2,63,963 children in the age group of 0-5 years in the district.
On the first day, the programme will be conducted at all the 1600 booths, including railway stations and bus terminals and on the second and third day teams drafted for the purpose would visit door-to-door to immunise left over children, said District Medical and Health Officer U. Swarajya Lakshmi.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, she said 1600 teams, excluding 37 transit teams, 160 supervisors and eight core group officers were deputed for the programme.
She said teams drafted for three villages located on the other side of Thatipudi Reservoir would leave by boats the night preceding the scheduled date. Also, there are 127 hill-top villages and 21 fishermen villages which are vulnerable to incidents of polio would be accorded priority.
The teams would leave for inaccessible villages a day in advance. She claimed that the first phase of the programme was a success. Some 2,55,639 children were administered polio drops against the target of 2,63,963 children.
She said that no child would be left uncovered in the second phase. G. Varalakshmi, District Immunisation Officer, was present.
