All those working for Andhra University and connected with it must work hard to prove that it was a magnificent institution and bring back its old glory, Chairman of AP State Council of Higher Education and former AU Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy said while replying to felicitations offered to him by the university in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Recalling his association with the university, Prof. Venugopal Reddy said he took charge when the university was passing through a difficult phase and, with the cooperation of all, could do it some good. But, some ambitious programmes could not be done. The Indian Science Congress was a great success, he said. The APSCHE Chairman hoped Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju would repeat the success.

Regarding APSCHE, he said it had a lot to do. “The big task for us is implementing the RUSA programme (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan of the Central government in which State universities and colleges would receive 65 per cent funding from the Centre), which was likely to come into effect from March 2014,” Prof. Reddy said.

Prof. Raju said Prof. Venugopal Reddy was a man of action and created many facilities during his term.

APSCHE Vice-Chairman Vijayaprakash, who was Registrar of AU when Prof. Reddy was the Vice-Chancellor, said the previous combination was successful and would continue at APSCHE.

Rector E.A. Narayana said Prof. Reddy took charge at a crucial stage and hoped a lot of good would be done to higher education in the State.

Principals of campus colleges spoke. A large number of teachers, research scholars, and employees felicitated Prof. Venugopal Reddy.
