The approval of the draft rehabilitation scheme (DRS) for Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels cleared by the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE) was hailed by many here.

BHPV National Employees' Union, Rajya Sabha MP T. Subbarami Reddy and INTUC district president K.S. Mohan Kumar expressed happiness over the development.

Hailing the decision taken in New Delhi on Thursday, the union said in the release that this would clear the way for realising their dream to merge BHPV with the BHEL as per the declaration made by Union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh last month.

Wage revision

Union general secretary Ch. Muni Babu said the DRS had been pending with the BRPSE for the past three years and the approval would pave the way for wage revision for the BHPV staff from 1997 and confirmation of the service of R series workers.

He said the staff would get wage arrears from May 1, 2008, till date immediately and the arrears from 1997 to April 30, 2008, later after coming to an agreement with the management of the BHEL.

Mr. Subbarami Reddy said the merger process should be completed immediately. Dr. Mohan Kumar said the merger decision was taken due to the initiative taken by INTUC national president G. Sanjeeva Reddy.
