APIIC chief hints at new policy for land acquisition

‘Special package for farmers who are ready to give up lands'

S. Sivarama Subrahmanyam, Chairman, AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, said that the government was framing a new policy for acquisition of land for the development of industries in the State and APIIC was going to approve the same in next meeting.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the APIIC Chairman said that it was going to be the first time in the country that a special package was being offered to farmers who were ready to give up their lands to APIIC at the rate fixed by respective district Collectors.

Under the new policy a farmer will get compensation, his family member will get employment in one of the industries that was going to come up in the land given in that area, a piece of land to the family of farmer to start any ancillary unit of the industry that will come up in the acquired land.

“If farmers give 100 acres, after acquisition, the APIIC will offer 10 acres of land to all the farmers together and distribute equally to start a small scale industry, which should be an ancillary unit,” said Sivarama Subrahmanyam.

He felt that port-based SEZ's land acquired by the APIIC was not properly utilised. The APIIC Chairman said that the corporation has cancelled land allotted to 521 entrepreneurs as they failed to start any unit. He said that cancellation notices were served on 2,500 entrepreneurs out of which 800 were given one year time extension with penalty.

He claimed that after he became Chairman of APIIC, the corporation had acquired 12,552 acres in the State and 9,500 acres were allotted to industrialists from the 2.10 lakh acres of land the corporation possessed. He said that APIIC is concentrating on developing IT, Software parks in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Kakinada and Warangal under public private partnership by giving tax relaxations and subsidies.
