Eleven members of a platform of people's organisations protesting against establishment of atomic and thermal power plants in Srikakulam district were arrested at Santabommali, in Srikakulam district on Friday.

Three days ago the people's organisations have launched a one-month long campaign in the district and are scheduled to visit all the areas where the power plants are proposed.

They started with Santabommali mandal in which an atomic power plant is being proposed at Kakarapalli and visited 13 villages. But when they reached Santabommali on Friday the police arrested them saying that they were provoking people and subjecting them to fear and anxiety, said Annapurna of APCLC. A case was filed against the 11 persons under Sec. 151 of Cr.P.C.

The activists are from APCLC, Praja Kala Mandali, DTF, Kula Nirmulana Porata Samiti, AP Chaitanya Mahila Sangham, Deshabhakta Prajatrantra Udyamam.
