The arena offers a great opportunity to be part of the programme and contribute to society in whatever way possible. It not only helps the community people to see a brighter side of life but also drives youth to take up more initiatives in the future, first year student NSS volunteers of Pydah College for Women (PCW) said.
If given an opportunity, they said, they look forward to many such occasions to work as a team and help promote healthy environs. The week-long NSS camp with a team of 50 volunteers of PCW has taken up a theme ‘beautification of Andhra University’, this year. As part of the camp, the volunteers visited Andhra University High School on Wednesday and delivered sessions on various topics like health and hygiene, environmental protection, effects of deforestation and pollution and its impact using charts. The programme also included AIDS awareness programme for Class X students.
During the week, the volunteers picked up plastic cups, covers and waste papers scattered between Faculty Club at AU and AU Central Canteen and placed them in the garbage bins. Further, they have also added colour to the flowering pots, dotting the university.
Appreciating the teamwork of the volunteers, Principal of the PCW D. Saroj said: “To mark the International Volunteers Day, a special campaign was organised in the school campus where the volunteers showed enthusiasm in educating each class on inclusive growth and related topics.”
Adding value to the programme, an interactive session was held between students of AU High School and NSS volunteers on various topics covered during the day and gifts were given to those who answered the questions correctly.
The theme oriented programme is concluding on Thursday. NSS programme officer of PCW J. Durga Aparajitha was participated.
