Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, which has been successfully implementing ‘From Classroom to Common Man’ programme for the last two years, will submit a vision document on the programme to the State government on Thursday during the Vice-Chancellors conference scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on Thursday. The AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) has sought more details about the flagship programme which will help students to understand the society apart from gaining academic knowledge in colleges.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is expected to go through the vision document and watch the power point presentation over the public interface programme which was aimed to study the people’s issues in a systematic way.

University Vice-Chancellor H. Lajipathirai introduced public interface programme to make students visit villages frequently and get acquainted with the real needs of the people. The recent studies of students on Aadhaar scheme, enrolment of voter identity cards, implementation of health schemes, groundwater situation, pollution levels in industrial area and other programmes have alerted the district administration, making it to bring changes immediately.

As many as 1,200 students of 16 departments are being actively involved in field surveys and marks are allocated for their role in accordance with guidelines of the University Grants Commission. UNICEF team which was impressed with its studies granted Rs.40 lakh for the study of ground water situation in Srikakulam district.

Dr. Lajipathirai said: “Good governance is possible only with the effective training programmes and field visits for students at right age since they will be officers and employees in future. They can provide better administration when they understand ground level situation effectively. That is why I introduced ‘From Classroom to Common Man’ programme. We are happy that the State government has also recognised the programme. I hope it will be replicated in other universities too in achieving the government’s goals in education system.”

APSCHE chairman L.Venugopala Reddy, who sent a letter to the Ambedkar University, appreciated the initiative while saying that quality education would be possible only when students understand structure of the society and governance.
