Abducted engineer not yet traced

July 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Four days have gone by and there is still no trace of Mangipudi Sai Srinivas, a city-based civil engineer, and his Indian colleague Anish Sharma, who were kidnapped from the Gboko town in Benue State of north-central Nigeria.

According to M. Lalita, wife of the kidnapped engineer, neither the Indian nor the Nigerian government has been able to establish contact with the kidnappers.

“We have not received any positive news so far,” she said.

CM’s assurance

Meanwhile, Ms. Lalita met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Saturday when he came to participate in the Vizag Bay Marathon.

“The Chief Minister assured to take up the matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said a distraught Lalita.

Anakapalle MP M. Srinivas visited the family on Saturday and promised to take it up with the Union Minister and other officials.

Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had called up Ms. Lalita on Friday and negated the Boko Haram angle, and said that the kidnapping was the handiwork of a local gang for ransom.

She also told Ms. Lalita that both the government and the embassies were working to identify and obtain the quick release of the kidnapped persons.

Mr. Sai Srinivas and Mr. Anish Sharma were kidnapped when they were proceeding to the cement plant from their residential quarters at around 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

They have been working for Dangote Cement Plc plant in Gboko for the last three years.
