With the idea of getting closer to smart policing, the DGP will be inaugurating vehicles fitted with GPS in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

To begin with, the GPS will be fitted in 18 Rakshak vehicles allotted to 18 police stations and five Blue Colts motorbikes.

In all, there are 23 police stations under the Commissionerate and each station has one Rakshak vehicle, one Blue Colt, and one D-Colt motorbikes. “The remaining vehicles will be fitted with the system in the second phase,” said a senior police officer.

Once fitted with the GPS, the vehicles will be tracked and monitored from the Central Command Station.

The DGP will also be inaugurating the fast response Central Command Station (CCS), which has been set up at the Police Commissionerate.

The CCS will house the command centre for the GPS-fitted vehicles and also accommodate the recently launched public utility services such as I-Click and Abhayam. Mr. Ramudu will also launch the website for passport verification. It is learnt that tabs will be given to head constables of 18 police stations for passport verification.

“From now on, all verification will be done online and even the report will be submitted by the head constables online. The hard copy and checklist will follow later. This will save us a lot of time,” said an officer.

The DGP will also inaugurate the Joint Operation Command Control Centre Building and lay the foundation stone for the Command Control Centre for the District Police at the Armed Reserve District Police Head Quarters at Visalakshinagar.
