VISAKHAPATNAM: In a major haul, the Air Intelligence Unit has intercepted an international passenger who arrived from Singapore and seized 1.2 kg of gold valued at ₹35.28 lakh.

Commissioner of Customs B. Hareram said on Saturday that their officers picked up the passenger who came by SilkAir flight MI-442 on Friday night at the green channel. The passenger tried to smuggle the gold by concealing it in his rectum, he said.

The seizure was made following concerted profiling of the international passengers arriving at the Visakhapatnam International Airport by the customs officers.

Visakhapatnam has flights to Dubai, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.
