With an objective to sensitise the public about the need for judicious use and conservation of petroleum products and help protect environment, a cycle rally was organised by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and Oil and Gas PSUs under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas here on Saturday.

Around 200 people, including HPCL employees, fuel retail outlet dealers, LPG distributors, delivery boys and sales staff, took part in the cycle rally that was held from Kali Temple to Hotel Palm Beach and back. PCRA is organising similar events across the country to mark January 21 as the Bicycle Day.

MP K. Haribabu and Chief Regional Manager of HPCL – Visakhapatnam V.V. Murli Krishna participated in the rally. The programme was organised as part of the month-long campaign, ‘Saksham 2017’ (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav), for awareness on conservation of petroleum products.

A series of events are lined up to mark the campaign which will end on February 15. Competitions like painting, essay and slogan writing on the theme ‘Oil Conservation’ will be held in schools and awareness workshops and programmes for industrial and agricultural users as well as general public as part of the campaign. The awareness campaign will conclude with a walkathon on the Beach Road on February 15.
