A 75-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in East Point Colony, under MVP Police Station limits, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Ratna Bharati.
The woman was found lifeless with her hands tied behind her back with a saree and her mouth gagged with a lungi.
According to ACP (East) A. Narasimha Murthy, the woman stayed alone in the ground floor of the house and her daughter and son-in-law stay in the first floor.
On Monday, she reportedly watched television till about 10.30 pm and then went to sleep. In the morning at around 7.30 a.m. when her son-in-law was going to duty, found the front door locked from inside, which was unusual, as she would get up every day at around 5.30 a.m.
Suspecting that something was wrong, the son-in-law along with family dhobi went to the back door and found it to be open.
“They went inside and found her dead,” said the ACP.
As per the family members, one gold chain was missing from her person. “We have booked a case under murder for gain and probing that angle,” said Mr. Narasimha Murthy.
The CLUES team and the dog squad was rushed to the spot and investigation is on.
