Seven jawans of AP Police Special Party and CRPF were injured in a honeybee attack when the contingent, comprising men from the AP Police and CRPF, were engaged in anti-Maoist combing operation near Maddigaruvu village in GK Veedhi mandal of the Agency area in Visakhapatnam district in the wee hours of Monday.

According to Special Branch (extremist) Inspector A. Venkata Rao, the contingent was attacked by a swarm of honeybees in the jungles adjoining Maddigaruvu during the combing operation.

The jawans, who suffered multiple stings on their faces, were first treated at the Community Health Centre in Paderu and later sent to a hospital in Visakhapatnam. Sources said that the combing operation was intensified after the declaration of Black Day on the Independence Day by the Maoists.
