A foreign vessel tilted to one side at the EQ berth number 5 at Visakhapatnam Port Trust here on Wednesday. Six persons were injured in the incident.
It is learnt that there were about 26 workers inside the cargo hold when the accident occurred. The 11000-tonne vessel MV Hai Duong listed and settled down after touching the berth.
As per sources in the VPT, the vessel was charted to export iron billets of RINL and about 1200 MT of billets were loaded when the vessel listed, as the balance of the weight shifted to one side.
The ballast tank of the vessel was emptied before the loading began on Wednesday.
Efforts on
According to VPT Chairman M.T. Krishnababu, there was nothing to worry and efforts are on to remove the loaded cargo to enable the ship to stabilise on its own.
However, sources said the cargo was not lashed properly and it slipped to one side to tilt the vessel.
