In tune with the government’s proposal to develop 3,000 playgrounds in government schools across the State, the District Sports Authority has selected 123 schools in the district.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday District Sports Officer June Gallyot said estimates have been made for 104 schools and sanction has been accorded for 41 schools in the first phase.

The work in remaining 82 schools will be taken up in the next phase, she said. The project is being jointly taken up by DSA and DWMA (District Water Management Agency) and will be executed through convergence of MGNREGS.

The basic criterion for selection of the schools was availability of two acres or more land in schools.

Project Director of DWMA B. Sudhakar said the Collector will sanction ₹ 5 lakh for developing a playground in each school and the work will be completed in the next two months.
